Update for 2-21-2007

Here we are in February of 2007 and we are down to 12 CPCs.  We are so short . . .

I have reviewed the draft Runway Safety Action Plans in their different versions as they continue to morph until the final draft.  It seems that the Action Item that dealt with the relocation of the terminal here disappeared.  I will look into this further.

I am in contact with Safety Representatives from Allied Pilots Association (APA), representing American Airlines pilots, Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA) and the Airline Pilots Association who represents United, America West, US Airways, UPS and FedEx.  I have discussed our safety concerns associated with the non-use of TIPH Operations procedures at night during periods of moderate to heavy traffic.  They are very concerned about the obvious erosion of our margin of safety that this creates on us and them and I will continue to pursue efforts with them.

By now you have seen that your pay has been cut by our employer.  If you hadn’t realized it, they have also cut your retirement.  By giving you that lump-sum payout for OSI/SCI plus the Presidential raise, they didn’t raise your base-pay but by a minuscule amount.  This action reduces your retirement annuity.  They also cut your Controller Incentive Pay by 20%.  As an aside, our management has not had their pay modified.  They continue to receive the full amount of Controller Incentive Pay – pretty ironic, isn’t it?  It seems that the “workgroup” that was to meet to determine management compensation didn’t have time to meet and do their job.

I have filed forty-four grievances in the last two weeks.  I filed to protect your right to claim full Controller Incentive Pay, Controller-in-Charge differential, elevated an Employee grievance regarding the denial of Court Leave, and Union Grievances on Change in Past Practice of Allowing the Earning of Credit Hours Before Weekend Midnight Shifts, Unilateral Implementation of changes to Taxi Into Position and Hold (TIPH) Operations, Agency Refusal to hear an Oral Presentation of a Grievance and Changes to Scheduling Practices.  Management continues with their practice of steam-rolling their agenda on the workforce but, I assure you, this will not go on without complaint and eventual reversal.  I will continue to document the agency’s malfeasance so that, in time, wrongs will be righted.

We continue to work short staffed.  This only exacerbates our OJT woes.  LA and MD hardly get any OJT because of this.  When they do, they are rusty because they haven’t trained in so long.  David Williams is still doing classroom and should start OJT in the next week or so.  I talked to a young man from ZOA yesterday that may be interested in BUR.  He was checked out on all of his D-sides and one R-side before training was stopped.  We could use his experience at BUR if he’ll come.

I will be on active duty for the military from 2-25 through 3-9.  During that time, Craig Lippert, our Vice President will be Acting Facility Representative.  I will be attending the Advanced Emergency Management course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where I will, once again, go through the Chemical Defense Training Facility which is filled with deadly-toxic Sarin (GB) and VX nerve agents.  Let’s hope my Chemical Protective equipment works again!
